As the mother of a 3 year old and 2 year old, it’s safe to say that my days can get crazy. On top of traveling the journey of motherhood, I am an elementary school educator, business owner, author and podcast host. Whew!
One evening, my girls decided to play dress up, which included strutting around in Mommy’s shoes. This pastime was becoming a regular occurrence, but this particular adventure ended with one of the biggest messes ever! As I walked downstairs, I witnessed what seemed like a sea of shoes strewn about the hallway in every direction imaginable. Being Mother of Year, I parted my mouth to yell at the top of my lungs, “GIRLS, come out here and clean up this mess NOW!” But thankfully, I paused, listened to my heart, took a step back and simply took it all in. At that moment, the phrase “empty shoes” whispered to my spirit.
I immediately grabbed my journal and began to write. I reflected on my life and how much I’ve evolved as a woman. What was the biggest part of that evolution? The answer is simple – developing a strong sense of self. While the story is also inspired by my youngest daughter (we are both the “baby” in our respective families), Empty Shoes is a book for everyone. How many times have you compared yourself to others? How many times have you tried to be someone other than who you are destined to be? We’ve all been there, and my desire is for Empty Shoes to serve as an entertaining way to teach children to embrace who they are.
As the book began to take form, I knew there had to be a way I could use its message to help others, not just in the emotional sense, but also physically.
