This weekend was an exciting one for many members of the Global Sisterhood. On Friday, Dr. Shellie Hipsky, Kourtney Leech, and I traveled to the Big Apple for a whirlwind weekend. After several agonizing flight delays, we finally touched down just in time to (literally) run to Pier 13 for Cruise for a Cause. After Kourt helped Shellie get glam, Shevelle called her upstairs to the ship’s gorgeous dining room. After Shevelle thanked everyone for coming, she called Shellie to the center of the dancefloor where she presented the Global Sisterhood with a check for $1,000! Many in attendance agreed that they’d never seen Dr. Shellie speechless, but she was truly overwhelmed with gratitude.
What made the evening even more special was that so many members of the Global Sisterhood came out to support Shevelle in the release of her book, Soar: Beyond the Heels of Adversity. Major Jas Boothe was in attendance, she ripped the runway in a glittering dress and her signature combat boots. The lovely Crystal Hayward and Maggie Delany helped get the party started. Nicole Grieco’s Tummy Treats bakery provided the fabulous Louboutin cake and designer themed cupcakes, which tasted as amazing as they looked. The evening had a warm atmosphere as so many Global Sisters were able to catch up and enjoy a night out together. Shevelle filled the yacht with her delightful friends and family, who rocked the dance floor, all while giving back to the YMCA, the I Dare to Care Foundation, and the Global Sisterhood. We are so grateful to Shevelle for her generous donation to the Global Sisterhood; it will enable us to help even more women and children across the world.
Saturday was a wildly busy day for Inspiring Lives Magazine. We began our day with an enlightening interview with the “Activation Queen,” Lucinda Cross. Lucinda shared her incredible story of perseverance and explained how she uses vision boarding and manifesting to help achieve her dreams. Next up, was our amazing photo shoot and interview with international top model, Farah Zulaikha. Farah was truly a joy to be around; not only is she a stunning model, but she is an accomplished humanitarian. Farah shared with us her diverse life experiences, from working with abused women to walking the runways at Milan fashion week. After our shoot, Farah showed us around the city and we had a chance to unwind. We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dennis Rodriguez for his wonderful photography and all of the assistance that he provided throughout the entire weekend.
On Sunday, we woke up bright and early to pack up and head back to Pittsburgh. After ordering in a quick breakfast, we were speeding towards the airport in a cab. The weekend was one of amazing new connections, strengthening of friendships, and true inspiration. We are so grateful to our lovely Sisterhood in the New York and New Jersey area, both those who we were able to spend time with, those who couldn’t make it out and also everyone who joined us via social media. Check out the winter issue of Inspiring Lives Magazine for more on Cruise for a Cause and our NYC adventures.
