The Global Sisterhood Charity Partnership Story
In 2000, Sally Power was navigating a divorce and “inherited” over $200,000 worth of debt. In an attempt to stabilize her personal finances and provide for her 3 children, Power secured a small women’s resale shop to augment her teaching income. The women who frequented this new venture were in similar or worse financial situations, and Power began to literally “give away the store.” An astute business friend encouraged Power to become a nonprofit and walked her through the process. Since then the organization has grown tremendously:
- From networking with 1 agency to partnering with over 80
- From 2 volunteers to having 71 volunteers in 2018
- From an 850 square foot storefront to 2,400 square feet on the ground floor of an office building to purchasing (July 2016) an 8,000 square foot facility (saving $20,000 over the previous lease).
Clothing, however, is the means, not the mission; the heart of the Treasure House nonprofit is to affirm the worth of women on challenging journeys – clothing is simply the convenient medium! In 2018, THF gave away over half a million dollars’ worth of clothing (calculated at our deeply discounted prices – not actual value!). In addition to distributing gift certificates through partner agencies, THF also offers HALF OFF daily to Single Moms, Sassy Seniors (55+), Military/First Responders, Teachers/Students and frequently runs special sales, passing along our abundant, quality donations to their loyal customer/client base.
Dr. Shellie Hipsky the founder of the Global Sisterhood, was introduced to Sally Power by the now Director of Governance for the Executive Board of the Global Sisterhood Alice Beckett-Rumberger. Dr. Shellie had her on her TV show Inspiring Lives with Dr. Shellie and was blown away by her story and her incredible heart for helping women in need. It became an amazing friendship following that show. She was then featured on Dr. Shellie’s Empowering Women Radio and her story was in Dr. Shellie’s International Bestselling Trilogy Common Threads.
Then Dr. Shellie joined her multiple times to be a “shopper” with the ladies in need of some pampering. Many of the Global Sisterhood have done this over the years and we love to help the ladies who don’t have the funds to get a new outfit, pick out the perfect one so that they feel amazing.
For inaugural the Global Gala and Mastermind, Sally Power’s gave an empowering Inspiring Lives Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56HNoc2zVSU&t=1s One of the most amazing Global Sisterhood memories was when we organized a Mommy Makeover at the local home for homeless single moms. We had Ashley Thompson from Elliven Spa do hair cuts and style the moms and Sally Power’s Treasure House Fashions dressed the ladies from head-to-toe. The women were so appreciative especially when they had professional photographs taken with their children. It was such a blessing for them to see themselves in a positive light. That’s what Treasure House fashions does, it shows women that they are indeed treasures. The Global Sisterhood proudly stands with Treasure House Fashions in our Charity Partnership.
